Hidden Hearing Loss: What We Know and What We Don’t

Sharon G. Kujawa, Ph.D., an auditory neuroscientist and clinician, focuses on primary causes of hearing loss like noise exposure and aging, aiming to reveal the types of cellular damage that result. In recent years, this work has given rise to the concept of ‘hidden hearing loss’ – declines in hearing function that are not revealed by the threshold audiogram, but are well-known to those who experience them. In this talk, Dr. Kujawa will provide an overview of what we know, how this information is shaping our approaches to diagnosis and treatment, and some of the large questions that remain.
